Sim of choice – PREPAR3D v5

  • von

As many of you asked me which simulator I am using at the moment. So I take some minutes to write about my simulator and the further ideas of SIMstarter NG.

As I am running a JeeHell based A320 Homecockpit I need to stay on PREPAR3D as long as all my Hard- and Software support the new Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. But even then I will not become an early adoptor. At the moment I am very happy with P3Dv5 which was a huge step from v4 in special in performance (I am able to run 8 x SSAA with my hardware).

I addition I own a lot of Payware Airports and Scenery and this would cost me a lot of money to switch over to MSFS. My in simulator visuals are okay, MSFS looks quite stunning, but this is not what I need – I use my sim “as real as it gets” procedure trainer. And at the moment he does everything I need and it is running perfectly and (most of the time) smooth.

Are you running JeeHell with P3Dv4.5 and think to switch over to P3Dv5? I woud stay there. Moving to P3Dv5 means a complete new installation of P3Dv5 (no upgrade from v3 nor v4) and purchasing a lot of new software and software updates. If you are happy – stay happy and wait for MSFS. Keep in mind, that P3Dv5 has higher system requirements including DirectX 12.

Can you use your P3Dv4.5 Sceneries in P3Dv5? It depends… Some of them are working well. But due to the corrected world data the stock airports have been much improved and this can require adding exclusions to the AFCAD. Dynamic lights may not work in P3Dv5. I had used some P3Dv4.5 Airports in the meanwhile until the upgrades have become available.

There is a nice interview on simFlight.de with Lean-Luc developer of JeeHell FMGS.

I am running MSFS on my development notebook but not in production. I am planning to switch my A320 simulator PC with a new one and would use “this old one” for my peroPROPSIM together with MSFS as an VFR simulator. But this still will take some time as there is no need to change something.

SIMstarter was born because I had problems that needed to be solved. As I am not running MSFS in production I am not that familiar with MSFS and therefore I am doing quite hard to decide if we will get SIMstarter for MSFS. For the moment there are no plans.
